Google’s Pay-Per-Action program

Google is venturing into Pay Per Action Program. Could it be a threat to other PPA/CPA, or even Affiliate Networks?

Google has some interesting twists on it, and I can tell you especially the second point in the for Advertisers section is Very interesting for me as I am also a merchant.

Here is an interesting article from J.P. Shoeffel of Niches-In-a-Box and Adsense Firesales fame:

>>
Google is currently testing a new type of ads that could change the structure of the Advertiser / Publisher market (understand, Linkshare, CJ …)
This could be the most important news of the year :-) . Google is introducing (beta test on the US market currently) a new type of ads.

I.) Advertisers (within Adwords program) will be able to bid for an action, and not only for a click! This is a HUGE difference, meaning you won’t have to fear paying for all this useless clicks. In addition it will lower the “click fraud” syndrom which is a real pain with Adwords.

Actions could be:

- a lead: you will pay when the visitor has completed the form, thus becoming a “real” prospect you will be able to follow-up.
Now, this is worth bidding on this, as your bid is now embedding the life time vaue of this lead… instead of the nanosecond value of the visitor’s click.

- a sale: it’s a disguised affiliate program. But imagine, the profits it could lead (especially in non IM related niches).
You will offer $5 or $10 for each sale generated. Don’t you think you will find publishers for your program? :-)
II.) For the Publisher (within Adsense program), Google has now added a new type of Text Link Ad. It will be a few words of text that will be inline with your own content. It will be transparent, and your visitors will not be able to know it, until… they click on the ad.

For example, you will have an article. Inside a sentence, you will have a “natural” sequence leading to the “action” form the Advertiser bid on. If the visitor completes the action (lead, sale), you will be paid for this.

It’s kind of what some scripts do by embedding Clickbank products inside your content… The main difference is that, it will be much more relevant than most of the “crappy” and non converting Clickbank products.

I will follow this with a lot of interest, as of course, it will be available within my sites as soon as it is out of beta, or at least available to a larger audience.

Have a nice day

My personal notes:

The program is already available for Publishers (Adsense) in other countries - not sure exactly if all, but it is available in Canada, as I am a Canadian and I see it in my Adsense account.

If you want to check if it is available for you login into your Adsense account, go to AdSense Setup and look down if you have a “Referrals” section added.

If you do, click on it and you will be brought to the Categories available page where you can View the Products available and Add it to the cart the ones you like.
You may choose up to 15 products and 10 keywords/categories in each shopping cart.

On the right hand side you can choose your Ad Format and Channels if you decide to create some.

If you need more help, or want more info about this new Google’s Pay-Per-Action program just click at the Help link or go to AdSense Support section.

So go and check Your AdSense Account and start Making Money! ;-)
